AB 490: Ensuring Educational Rights for Foster Youth

About AB490: This law allows a child that has been removed from their home by Juvenile Dependency Court (CPS) and placed into foster care to remain in their "school of origin." If you are a parent of a child that has become a ward of Juvenile Dependency Court, then you as a parent have the "educational rights" and respectfully request that the court keep your children in their own school. Parents and your attorney must have a court order to carry out your child's best educational interest.

For more information and to prepare for raising this request at your next court date click HERE.

For information on placements and licensing, call the Office of the Foster Care Ombudsman at
1-877-846-1602

If you have complaints about your foster family home or your group home, you can call the Community Care Licensing Regional Office nearest to where you live. To find the closest Office, go to CCL Regional Offices. To file a complaint with the Ombudsman now, go to Complaint Form.

For problems or concerns with the Sacramento County Department of Health and Human Services, CPS division you may follow this link that provides information and steps to take in resolving a dispute.
